In an interview with Bollywood Life, Manoj Bajpayee talked about why everyone in the family needs to have Banda. Here are some pieces of the interview.
How did you prepare to become a lawyer in Banda?
I mean that it’s always mostly the same to get ready. You’ve seen the research materials that the director gives you and been to the meetings with the director where he goes over every last detail of the case. You’ve also met one or two lawyers and heard about my experiences with all of them. So, it’s taken me about a month and a half to figure out all of these details and create the characters, their back stories, their personalities, and their relationships with each other. All of that, I mean, what can I say? You’ll never get what we do. It’s a skill. So, it’s a skill, and we prepare for it a month or two before the filming starts. Was there a specific case as a point of reference that the film is inspired by true events?
This isn’t a special case. But, as you know, there have been many cases like this in the past. A lot of them are still out there, waiting for court decisions. There are still a lot of things going on. But in our society, the safety of a child or teen is the most important thing. The movie is mostly about him. To let people know about the dangers that all children face and how vulnerable they are. And how protecting children becomes the job of the parents, the community, and everyone. Keep them safe, keep them safe. Not just from people who don’t know them, but mostly from people who know their parents or other family members. It is very important to keep everyone away from them. Also, pay close attention to your baby’s movements.
Why a direct OTT release for Banda?
See, Zee Studios is a one-person business. They do their own polls and studies. So, he decided that he should just go straight to OTT and not try to get it into theaters. This is what they found out from their research and survey, and it’s how they made their decision. But we are also thinking about putting it out after a week of streaming. Just to see how people feel, they went to 10–15 single-screen theaters in North India. We want to see what they say in response. This is a great thing that Zee Studios and Zee 5 are doing. But I do know that showing this story to family members is very important. Not only for the story and the movie, which are both great, but also for how important it is for a child to know that danger is always there. Everyone in the family needs to watch it because of this. And to do that, it was also smart to bring it to his house. Bring it to their house so they can see it. So, OTT is the best way to get into those homes and force the parents to sit down and watch this movie for the safety of their children.
Banda will come out on Zee5 on May 23. The trailer says that the movie will be a lot of fun and make a big impression on everyone.
