Extreme violence and crime against women have dominated discussions and debates on social media, from the Nirbhaya rape case to the recent event in Manipur where two women were stripped naked and exhibited on the streets. Several celebrities who had previously shown their support for women’s rights returned to the stage to assist these ladies in obtaining justice. They expressed their sorrow and urged the government to take strong action against the culprits. Celina Jaitley, a former actress and social activist who had previously come up in support of the LGBTQIA+ community, came out in support of the women and wrote a lengthy letter pleading with the authorities to act immediately.
Celina Jaitley wrote in her note that she was grieved and shocked by the incident and the unfair treatment of the Kuki women, and that she had been unable to eat or sleep since watching videos of the #Manipur violence a few hours earlier. trembling once again in anguish, fury, and anger. Violence is violence, whether it’s ethnic or not, regardless of the motivation, and violence against women is not cultural; it’s illegal. He went on to further discuss their rights, saying, “The safety of women and children should be the authorities’ main priority. I urge the government to take such harsh action that no one can even imagine trying to do something like this again because I am appalled by this awful, cruel crime against women.
