Karan Johar, who has had enormous success in both film and OTT, thinks that content is influential today and that there is nothing wrong with adopting a gray lifestyle.
At an event of the “India’s International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN) Back to School” series, KJo was talking with students and media members alongside Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, the leading duo of their upcoming movie “Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.”
The cultural fabric of our society is changing as a result of how movies and other OTT content affect young, impressionable brains, according to Karan Johar. What a weighty question to start with, he remarked. To give an honest response, I have to be objective. I think that both society and cinema reflect one another.
“Film also genuinely takes inspiration from the society,” Karan Johar continued. Although some scenes in Indian movies might be slightly exaggerated, many of them are actually quite accurate. And as a filmmaker, I have only been inspired by what I see in people.
Karan continued, “From my observation of the neighborhood we live in, the society we inhabit, and the people we deal with, it is very crucial that you understand the grammar of your environment before you can effectively tell a tale as a writer or filmmaker.”
The speaker continued, “Of course, some of us who grew up in urban India have a certain grasp of those dynamics and relationships, and there are others who are fortunate, exposed to the rest of India, and who can tell those stories with similar richness.
“I do believe that today’s programming is clearly widening the human spectrum of relationships and exposing it in a large way, without sugar coating it or offering glimpses of love and romance,” said Karan Johar. We’re talking about gray areas, and you, especially as students, need to understand that there are many shades of gray in life.
“Walking the gray path every day is not a bad thing; gray is the actual expression of your true, vulnerable self. The strength of our work today, in my opinion, is that it highlights human vulnerabilities, whether it be through OTT platforms or new-age movies, according to Karan Johar.
On July 28, “Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani,” directed by Karan, with Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi, will be released in theaters.
