The 2023 PGA Championship continues on Friday with Round 2 getting underway early in the morning as the first round comes to a finish. While several previous major champions had their sights set on the Wanamaker Trophy, Bryson DeChambeau was in the driver’s seat following the first day of competition with the lead in the clubhouse.
The winner of the 2020 US Open relied on an old performance with the big stick to finish with a 4-under 66 on Thursday. Even if his position on the scoreboard is well known, competitors may be most afraid of the person listed immediately below him. The second-ranked golfer in the world, Scottie Scheffler, completed Oak Hill without making a bogey and finished at 3 under par, one stroke behind DeChambeau. After a 2-under 68 on his way to winning his third consecutive major tournament, Victor Hovland is a contender.
Dustin Johnson and Adam Scott, both Masters champions, are far behind the leader and will try to set up for the weekend run as early as Friday. While Jon Rahm, Matt Fitzpatrick, Jordan Spieth, and Shane Lowry will hope to hang around for the weekend due to the challenging conditions at Oak Hill Golf Course, Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, and Justin Thomas will compete for positions in contention and between the cut line.
