Ban Captain Burns Harmanpreet For Insulting Home Team, Questioning Umpiring

The draw between the two Asian rivals, India and Bangladesh, should have been the highlight of the series, or at least that decisive game, on Saturday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Instead, the entire attention shifted to Harmanpreet Kaur’s act of smashing the stumps after being dismissed and later questioning the stand of umpiring in the series. While Smriti Mandhana, the India captain’s deputy, backed her, Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana retaliated against Harmanpreet by criticizing her for acting inappropriately during the third ODI.

Harmanpreet was removed in the 34th over of India’s 226 run chase when Nahida Akter finished the catch. Yet, it was still unclear if the ball came off the bat or the pads. Harmanpreet was furious as she destroyed the stumps after being dismissed and then engaged in a heated conversation with the umpire as she made her way to the dugout because it seemed that the umpire signaled it out after the successful catch.

In addition, Yastika Bhatia’s lbw dismissal and Meghna Singh’s dismissal were the other two instances in which India was dissatisfied with the umpiring standards in the game.

Harmanpreet criticized the umpires after the game, saying: “There is a lot to learn from this game. We were shocked by the type of umpiring there, even without considering the cricket. When we return to Bangladesh in the future, we’ll need to ensure that we can deal with this type of umpiring and, as a result, we’ll need to be ready.”

Harmanpreet Blasted For Insulting Bangladesh Team

In an ESPNCricinfo report, Harmanpreet claimed that the umpires should pose with Bangladesh for the series finale, meaning that they were a member of the home team. After speaking with BCB officials about the insulting remark, Nigar exited the post-game ceremony with the player.

In the post-game presentation, Nigar addressed the incident and retaliated against Harmanpreet for her inappropriate behavior, explaining that it was because of her comments that the Bangladeshi team decided to leave the photo opportunity.

“That is solely her issue. I’m not involved in it in any way. She could have behaved better as a player. I’m not sure what transpired, but having my crew present for the shot didn’t feel right. It wasn’t the appropriate setting. That is why we returned. Cricket is a game of respect and discipline “She spoke.

Nigar stated on the umpiring, “If she wasn’t out, the umpires wouldn’t declare her out. They were competent umpires because they have officiated men’s international cricket matches. What will India say about the six dismissed players who were caught or run out, excluding Harmanpreet and Meghna’s wickets? We have honored their judgment. Whether I agree with it or not, the umpire’s decision is final. Why didn’t we act like the Indian athletes did?”
