In the wake of the ball-tampering incident that occurred during the 2018 Cape Town Test between South Africa and Australia, Candice Warner, the wife of Australia’s opening batsman David Warner, has criticized Cricket Australia (CA) for their lack of support for the southpaw.
David Warner, an Australian cricketer, received a lifetime leadership ban as a result of his involvement in the scandalous sandpaper episode in South Africa five years ago. The scandal dominated headlines in 2018. Along with Steve Smith, who was stripped of his leadership, and Cameron Bancroft, who was barred for nine months, he was also given a one-year suspension.
But Steve Smith, who is now Australia’s vice-captain in both ODI and Test matches, recently led the team while Pat Cummins, the regular captain, was unavailable.

David Warner, who sought a hearing on his leadership ban, changed his mind after learning that the hearing would be open to the public because he didn’t want his loved ones to have to endure the terrible ordeal.
There Was No Cricket Australia Official Helping David Warner: Candice Warner
On The Matty Johns Podcast this week, Warner spoke of David’s neglect of the players’ needs upon their return from South Africa. She blasted CA for not supporting Warner at all in the wake of the controversial episode.
“There was no support. Basically from when we left the hotel in South Africa, David was wiped. There was no Cricket Australia official helping him. There was nothing. It’s like basically you fend for yourself now. It was basically fend for yourself, see you later. Thanks for your services.
Probably, we’re going to do our best for you not to ever come back and play cricket for our country again. We’re going to blame you for everything, and that’s what they did,” Candice Warner said.

As spectators at St. George’s Park were spotted mocking the former Ironwoman champion about her bathroom tryst with footballer Sonny Bill Williams during the second Test match between South Africa and Australia, Candice Warner added that there “wasn’t enough support” from CA.
“I was even told by someone within Cricket Australia at the time within the team that it’s in the team’s best interest to keep your mouth shut. That fired me up, and David up … we have so much respect for the team, but we’re also human beings. There was no help, at all. It’s sad, because I learnt to just accept it,” she added.
David Warner is currently playing for Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL 2023.
